Gaby presented Francis Alys. Sometimes making something leads to nothing. Myth of Sisyphus. 1997 piece. ringing bell. converse. Alys pushes block of ice. It leaves residue. People see him, no one asks questions. cars drive by. Water keeps dripping. When blocks gets smaller he has to bend down more. ends up kicking it across town to hold his cigarette. He carries/pushes it down stairs. All diegetic sound in the video recording it. Block becomes very small. Kicks it again. Time is compressed into a 5 minute video-interval cuts. The man's attitude towards the task changes with time ending in a nonchalant noncommital eventual completion of the pointless task at hand. Theory of Absurdism. A statement on existentialism or just some absurd, humorous work of art?
