Critique Day

Sara went first and had some really cool effects going on in her stop motion by constantly moving pushpins and using the bloom effect in final cut to change the lighting.
Joel's project did a really good job with steadiness from the tripod and pretty even lighting, which is difficult to control outside in natural light. It was very romantic so the title fit very well.
Nicole's movie Dead Leaves told a narrative by creating shapes with dead leaves. It's very obvious that she's aware of where the frame is and did a great job with using the medium of leaves, and paint, and small props, and crushing them at the end. It reminded me of the stationary camera use in Her Morning Elegance by Oren Lavie.
Leslie's movie, "And Then There Were Two" showed strong Creation allusions, creative camera angles, and good characters. The type can be improved.
Melissa's "Separation Anxiety" had a lot going on. The clock moving worked really well. The different items that appear on the desk are interesting. The lighting gives a great sense of time. The laptop moving shows great emotion and character. I really loved the reflection within the tv.
Jim's video had a really great narrative with simplistic line drawings and lots of repetition. The twist at the end was great.
Olga's video moot had a great narrative and great message. I think it could be used for numerous applications, as fine art, children's tv, PSA, stop littering ad campaigns, and more.
Gaby's video the Sacrifice has a great intro title sequence. Interesting camera shake, intentional and unintentional.
Kirstin's video used really innovative techniques of paper puppets to narrate her story. I really liked the moments where the viewer suspends their perception of reality, like when the surface of the water is broken by the monkey and we see water droplets. The sound worked well with the piece. I liked when the alligator flips his head around because his flat nature is emphasized. Great Indonesian Shadow Puppet influence.
William's video used decisive black and white that went really well with the Frank Sinatra music. And the title of the song went with the title of the video with the constant showing of skin.
Kt's video towel dry is really well executed through multiple and moving camera angles as well as mostly realistic movements.
Ryan's video Flashed spoke to the simplicity that stop motion can reveal. It was interesting to go from real video to chroma key and back. There was a nice use of fade and other effects. The lighting is very dramatic. Dramatic character superhero does nothing. The darkness seems to hold back the hero.
Anthony's video Familiar was a really funny narrative with a sense of triumph that the viewer relates to. The lens flare added humor to the video. The use of a transformer toy made the flying believable.
Kelsey's video was very involved in the stop motion experience so that the background moved just as much as the main character. I wish the French subtitles lasted long enough for the viewer to read.
